How to join FSL embroidery

How to join FSL embroidery

Often we need a long lace ribbon for our handmade item. But unfortunately, the embroidery machine hoops does not allow embroidering a long piece at once.

Therefore, you need to join different embroidered parts.

How to join the pieces of freestanding lace into a whole item?

Embroidery the first part of lace. Take it out of the hoop, cut the excess stabilizer.

It is better to embroider not on one, but at least two layers of the stabilizer. You can put it on top and sew with a locking thread.

I often put the second layer not on top, but on the bottom of the main layer, which is hooped.

Sew the first line of your design and then stop embroidering.

Cut the stabilizer of the first piece of lace very close to the edge (2-3 mm = 0,1 inches).

Cut the stabilizer of the first piece

This edge can be slightly sprinkled with fabric glue (wrong side). I use glue as in the photo, but it can be any glue for the fabric.

Align the corner of the first lace with the start of a new stitch. Align and press lightly.

Start embroidering FSL slowly, making sure the lines match.

If everything worked out smoothly, continue embroidering as usual.

If everything was done correctly, the seam will be strong.

When you wash the stabilizer, do it carefully, watch the seam.

If you are not sure that you can connect it neatly, you can embroider two pieces of FSL separately and join them with a zig-zag seam on a sewing machine after embroidery. But this must be done BEFORE the water-soluble stabilizer is washed off
